Mounting on Exterior Wall Types

Glare is the other battle. Direct sun on the glass makes any screen unwatchable. A few tricks that work:

• Tilting mounts — angle the screen away from the sun and toward the viewer. Available on every installation (+$45, all sizes).
• Positioning — orient the seating and screen so the sun is behind the viewers, not behind the TV.
• Full-motion mounts — swing the TV to follow the shade or to serve two seating areas. Available up to 55″ at +$125.
• Shade — a tree line, a pergola, or even a patio umbrella can do more for the picture than any mount setting.

Power and Cables Outdoors

An outdoor TV needs power, and most porches don't have an outlet where you want the screen. The clean solution, where the porch wall has a cavity to work in, is the in-wall chase (+$99): the existing outlet is extended behind the screen on a UL-listed in-wall rated cord kit, so there is no extension cord draped across the porch. Where there is no cavity, a weather-rated surface channel does the same job on the face of the wall. For cable and internet, we route wires through covered spaces wherever possible, or use low-voltage conduit rated for outdoor use.
